Tottenham have agreed a season-long loan deal for João Palhinha from Bayern Munich, with an option to buy the Portuguese midfielder for £27 million.
Spurs will pay a £4.3 million loan fee and cover Palhinha’s full wages, with the 30-year-old set to undergo a medical in the coming days.
Tottenham initially wanted a straight loan for Palhinha, who joined Bayern from Fulham last summer in a deal worth up to £47.4 million. However, Bayern insisted on including a £27 million purchase option, which Spurs accepted.
Palhinha, who has three years left on his contract, is eager to return to the Premier League after two strong seasons at Fulham. He started just six Bundesliga games under Vincent Kompany last season.
Tottenham have a strong relationship with Bayern, having recently signed Mathys Tel for around £30 million after his loan spell last season, as well as previous deals for Harry Kane and Eric Dier.
Spurs are also looking to sign a new left-back, with Fulham’s Antonee Robinson a target, and another attacking midfielder after missing out on Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White.
In other news, Tottenham teenager Mikey Moore has joined Rangers on a season-long loan without an option to buy.
The 17-year-old, who turns 18 this month, came through Spurs’ academy and became their youngest-ever Premier League player at 16 years and 277 days when he debuted against Manchester City last year.
Moore, who has represented England at youth level up to U19s, said: “I’m excited to get going. As soon as I heard Rangers were interested, it was a massive opportunity for me.”
