#intelligence 👉 The fog of war has not lifted. It has changed in nature. For centuries, commanders lacked information. Now they risk drowning in it. Satellite imagery accessible to all, geolocated videos, continuous network feeds… Since 2022, Ukraine has shown what open sources can reveal about a theater, almost in real time. It is this transformation that Karima Bouaiss, a university professor, analyzes in a high-quality contribution for Cercle K2.

Three lessons for anyone who holds or has held command responsibilities:

1. AI is a force multiplier, not a substitute for discernment.

2. Democratization shifts the strategic balance. What was once the preserve of states is now within reach of an SME, an NGO… or an adversary.

3. Do not confuse the orders.

Through André Comte-Sponville’s framework, the author reminds us that technology must never command law, morality and ethics. Letting the algorithm dictate the decision would mean yielding to what the philosopher calls barbarism.

The military will recognize in this a founding principle of their profession. One delegates a task, never a responsibility. Radio, radar, satellite, drone… each breakthrough promised transparency on the battlefield. None made obsolete the commander who judges, decides and takes responsibility.

AI accelerates the intelligence cycle. It does not shift its center of gravity: the human being.
