Chelsea are nearing a £35 million deal for Ajax defender Jorrel Hato and are also targeting RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons.

Chelsea are nearing a deal to sign Jorrel Hato from Ajax and have also started discussions with RB Leipzig about bringing in his Dutch teammate Xavi Simons.

The club has reportedly agreed personal terms with Hato, who has already made over 100 appearances for Ajax’s first team despite only turning 19 in March. Negotiations with Ajax over a fee of around £35 million are said to be in the final stages, as manager Enzo Maresca looks to strengthen at left-back and center-back.

Hato, who became Ajax’s youngest-ever captain at 17 in 2023 and made his senior international debut soon after, can play in both positions and is considered one of Europe’s top young talents. He recently featured for the Netherlands U21 side in the European Championship semi-finals and has earned six senior caps.

Chelsea, who have already signed Liam Delap, João Pedro, and Jamie Gittens this summer, are also optimistic about securing a deal for Simons. The 22-year-old forward, who can play multiple attacking roles, joined Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain in January for £50 million after two successful loan spells and could now cost up to £70 million.

While Bayern Munich have shown interest in Simons, he is believed to favor a move to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have allowed Kepa Arrizabalaga, Noni Madueke, and Djordje Petrovic to leave, while João Félix completed a £44 million transfer to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr on Tuesday.
