The Sex and the City spin-off And Just Like That will conclude after its current third season. Showrunner Michael Patrick King announced the news on social media, explaining they delayed sharing it to avoid overshadowing the final season, which will wrap up with a two-part finale.
“We’re deeply grateful to all the viewers who’ve welcomed these characters into their homes and hearts over the years,” King wrote.
The revival brought back original stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon, alongside new cast members like Nicole Ari Parker and Sarita Choudhury.
Reflecting on her iconic role, Parker shared on Instagram: “Carrie Bradshaw has been at the center of my career for 27 years. I’ve loved her deeply—and I know others have too, whether cheering her on or feeling frustrated with her. That mix of emotions has been the most meaningful journey.”
Davis expressed sadness over the show’s end in her own post.
While the series initially drew strong viewership on HBO Max, its popularity waned over time, failing to impress critics or awards voters. Ratings for the third season premiere dropped 7% from the second season and 62% from the first.
A recent Hollywood Reporter article highlighted how some fans now mock rather than celebrate the show, with writer Lily Ford noting that And Just Like That has forced viewers to “unlearn what they once loved about Sex and the City.”
The original series, a trailblazing exploration of four women’s lives in New York, became one of HBO’s first major hits, earning seven Emmys and eight Golden Globes. It spawned two films, though the second was poorly received, and plans for a third were scrapped amid reports of Kim Cattrall’s refusal to participate. Cattrall later made a brief return in And Just Like That.
Parker, recently a Booker Prize judge, has confirmed she’ll reprise her role in Hocus Pocus 3. Meanwhile, King is set to return to HBO with a third season of The Comeback, starring Lisa Kudrow.
