Russian strikes have killed at least 12 people in Ukraine, according to local officials, following overnight attacks across the country.
In the southern port city of Odesa, missile and drone attacks killed six people, as reported by the head of the city’s military administration, Sergiy Lysak, on Telegram Thursday.
Strikes on the capital, Kyiv, killed at least four people, including a 12-year-old child, according to Ukraine’s state emergency service. Two more people died in the central city of Dnipro, said Oleksandr Ganzha, head of the regional administration. Ganzha had earlier reported that the attack wounded 10 people, including a 40-year-old woman hospitalized in serious condition. It was unclear if she was among the fatalities.
In Kyiv, rescuers pulled a child from the rubble of a collapsed residential building in the Podilsky district, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. The attack on the capital wounded at least 10 others, including several medics. Klitschko also reported a fire in the Obolonsky district after missile debris fell, setting cars ablaze. Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, urged civilians to remain in shelters until the missile alert ended.
A drone strike on the northeastern city of Kharkiv wounded a 77-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man, according to Oleh Syniehubov, head of the regional military administration, who posted the update on Telegram.
Moscow has launched hundreds of drones against Ukraine on a near-nightly basis since the war began four years ago and has recently intensified daytime strikes as well.
