This morning, I received good news! 
CHF 19,778.40 in health insurance for 2027!
That’s CHF 1,329.60 more than in 2026, an increase of 7.2% for our family of four.
Quick question: can my wife and I now go to our employers and ask for a 7.2% salary increase too? 
Because if the bills go up every year but incomes don’t follow, there comes a point when the equation no longer adds up.
On top of that, CHF 4,691.70 in cantonal and municipal taxes for 2026.
In total, CHF 24,470.10, the equivalent of nearly three and a half months of our estimated family income.
And we haven’t even talked about housing, food, transport or childcare yet.
Yes, I am aware of our quality of life in Switzerland and the value of our healthcare system. Our insurance also includes supplementary coverage that we chose.
But by working to pay for our health insurance, aren’t we at risk of eventually getting sick from working so much?
It’s a vicious circle.
Mental health matters as much as physical health. This constant financial pressure is exhausting, strains couples and can sometimes help break families apart.
I’m not looking for confrontation or someone to blame. But our political leaders must grasp the scale of this reality and act concretely to relieve households.
Working should also make it possible to live, to raise one’s children with peace of mind, to build projects and to enjoy the fruit of one’s efforts.
Preserving our quality of life also means preserving our financial, family and mental balance.
