قالت أوليفيت أوتيلي، أستاذة متميزة في إرث وذاكرة العبودية في جامعة سواس في لندن، إنه بينما لا يزال نقص التفاصيل المماثلة عن النساء الأفريقيات المستعبدات صادمًا، "كلما عرفنا أكثر عن المستعبدين، زادت فرصتنا في التعلم عن النساء المستعبدات من الأرشيفات، لأن المذكرات أحيانًا يمكن أن تكشف تفاصيل أكثر."
أضافت أن الأرشيفات وحدها لا يمكنها سرد التاريخ الكامل، ويجب أن ينظر البحث المستقبلي في أدلة أخرى للمساعدة في استعادة حياة وفاعلية النساء المستعبدات. قالت: "كانت هؤلاء النساء ناقلات وحاملات لثقافاتهن أينما أُخذن." "من خلال الطعام والموسيقى والرقص، يتعلق الأمر بالمقاومة والفاعلية، وقد نقلن ذلك."

تُظهر محاضر الاجتماعات نساء يعملن كشهود، ويدرن بيت الاجتماع، ويسلمن البضائع المستبدلة بحياة الأفارقة، ويقدمن التماسات للأجور، وينقلن المعلومات، والأهم من ذلك، يقرضن المال ويشترين ويبعن الأسهم.
بموجب القانون الإنجليزي، كانت النساء غير المتزوجات أو الأرامل يتحكمن في ممتلكاتهن ويمكنهن العمل كأشخاص قانونيين، بينما لم تستطع النساء المتزوجات ذلك.
قالت تشامبرز: "يصبح ذلك مهمًا حقًا لشركة رويال أفريكان كومباني وهي تتعثر بين الأزمات المالية." "وفرت النساء هذا البئر المهم من رأس المال الذي يمكنهم اللجوء إليه."
