ロンドン大学SOASの奴隷制の遺産と記憶の著名な教授であるオリヴェット・オテレは、奴隷にされたアフリカ人女性についての比較可能な詳細の欠如は依然として衝撃的である一方、「奴隷所有者についてより多くを知れば知るほど、文書から奴隷にされた女性について学ぶより良い機会が得られる。なぜなら、日記がより多くの詳細を明らかにすることがあるからである」と述べた。

イングランド法の下では、独身または未亡人の女性は自分の財産を管理し、法人として行動することができたが、既婚女性はできなかった。

18世紀初頭、RACの秘書ジョン・ペリーは、レディ・ドロシー・トーマスやステイシー夫人を含む女性投資家に手紙を書き、会社の債務を株式と交換し、友人や親戚にも同じようにするよう説得するよう促した。
チェンバースは述べた。「それは財政的プロジェクトであるが、政治的プロジェクトでもある。なぜなら、彼は彼女たちが公式の地位を保持していないかもしれないが、女性は家族や会社の認識のされ方に非常に影響力があったことを知っていたからである。」
